Traditional wrestlers to meet rivals in Ashgabat

TEHRAN, Sep. 16 (MNA) – Iran’s traditional wrestling squad is slated to begin debut in the Turkmen capital as part of the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games.

Turkmenistan is hosting the fifth Asian Indoor and Martial Art Game in the white-marbled city of Ashgabat where a great number of guests from 62 countries, including 45 Asian and 17 Pacific countries, are being received.

As many as five thousand athletes from 21 kinds of sport, 2,500 coaches as well as more than 10,000 foreign guests are taking part at the event.

Three types of wrestling will also be on show at the Games, with traditional and belt wrestling joining the Olympic version of the sport.

As such, national Iranian traditional wrestlers are slated to begin competitions today. Iran’s hopes in Men’s Turkmen Goresh, which is a national Turkmen kind of belt wrestling, division are pinned on Ghasem Norouzi (57kg), Abdolnaser Ghorbanpour (62kg), Esmaeil Amiri (68kg), Ghsem Dazi (75kg), Habib Torabi (82kg), Hamed Mirzapour (90kg), Mahmoud Parvaneh (100kg) as well as Habib Gholampour (+100kg).

Meanwhile, Ghasem Norouzi (57kg), Hamid Bahrami (62kg), Esmaeil Amiri (68kg), Ghasem Dazi (75kg), Habib Torabi (82kg), Davoud Evazzadeh (90kg), Abdollah Iri (100kg) as well as Abdolvahed Mohammadi (+100kg) will represent Iran in the traditional wrestling category.

The 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which is also counted as the 5th Asian Indoor Games is being held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan from September 16-27.
